“Can’t Stop” was the third single released by the Red Hot Chili Peppers to support their eighth studio album By the Way. This live, exclusive concert for the U.K. release of the song was held at the Hollywood Center Studios in Hollywood, California and was produced in association with Warner Bros. Records. “Can’t Stop” is one of the few tracks on By the Way to revisit the original Red Hot Chili Peppers method of short, rapped verses. The song was the bands’ eighth #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart where it spent three weeks topping the list, and peaked at #57 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The album By the Way by Warner Bros. Records sold over 286,000 copies in the first week, while peaking at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart. Singles from the album included “By the Way,” “The Zephyr Song” and “Can’t Stop”. Guitarist John Frusciante is credited with writing most of the album’s melodies, bass lines, and guitar progressions, therefore changing the direction of the recording dramatically. The album contained very little of the signature punk-funk fusion the band had become known for playing, and was applauded by critics as a departure from the band’s previous styles. The album went on to sell over 13 million copies worldwide.
